About SumUp
At SumUp, we help small businesses succeed by making payments simple. From card readers and business accounts to complete point-of-sale solutions, our products give merchants the tools they need to start, run and grow their businesses.
Our self-employed Field Sales Consultants are an important part of that mission, working face-to-face with local business owners to understand their needs and connect them with the right SumUp solutions.
We’re looking for a Territory Manager to take ownership of our self-employed field sales channel across South London and the South East of England.
The role
This is a hands-on sales leadership role focused on three things: recruiting, developing and growing a successful community of self-employed Field Sales Consultants.
You’ll own your region, continually attracting new consultants into the channel, supporting them through onboarding and coaching them to improve their confidence, commercial knowledge and sales performance.
You’ll spend significant time in the field, working alongside consultants, providing practical coaching and using performance data to identify opportunities for development.
Your three priorities
Recruit – Build a consistent pipeline of talented self-employed Field Sales Consultants and grow the channel across your territory.
Develop – Coach consultants in the field, helping them strengthen their sales approach, product knowledge and commercial confidence.
Grow – Increase consultant productivity, merchant acquisition, retention and geographical coverage across the region.
What you’ll be doing
- Take ownership of the self-employed field sales channel across South London and the South East.
- Proactively source, interview and recruit new Field Sales Consultants.
- Build a strong recruitment pipeline through direct outreach, referrals, networking and local activity.
- Support new consultants through onboarding and help them become productive quickly.
- Deliver regular coaching, development sessions and practical field support.
- Join consultants in the field to observe their approach and provide actionable feedback.
- Develop consultants’ prospecting, questioning, product demonstration, objection-handling and closing skills.
- Build an engaged regional community where consultants can share knowledge, learn from one another and celebrate success.
- Monitor activity, merchant activations, productivity and retention, using data to identify opportunities and performance gaps.
- Ensure consultants have a strong understanding of SumUp’s products, merchant proposition and commission structure.
- Keep the channel informed about new products, campaigns and commercial opportunities.
- Develop regional plans to strengthen geographical coverage and identify areas with strong merchant potential.
- Partner closely with Talent Acquisition, Sales, Training and Operations to continuously improve recruitment, onboarding and retention.
- Represent SumUp professionally and ensure merchants receive a consistently high-quality experience.
What we’re looking for
You’ll be a great fit if you have:
- Experience leading, coaching or developing people in a sales environment.
- A strong track record in field sales, face-to-face sales or business development.
- Experience recruiting or growing a sales team, partner network or commission-based channel.
- The confidence to proactively identify and attract prospective consultants, rather than relying solely on inbound applications.
- A practical, hands-on coaching style and the ability to develop different personalities and experience levels.
- Strong commercial awareness and confidence using performance data to drive decisions.
- The ability to create energy, engagement and a sense of community across a geographically dispersed network.
- A proactive, resilient and entrepreneurial mindset.
- Strong communication, organisation and relationship-building skills.
- The ability to work independently and take ownership of a large territory.
- A full UK driving licence and flexibility to travel regularly across South London and the South East.
Experience within payments, POS technology, merchant services or hospitality sales would be beneficial, but isn’t essential.
What success looks like
Success in this role means building a growing, productive and engaged community of Field Sales Consultants.
You’ll create a consistent pipeline of high-quality new recruits, help new consultants become productive quickly and ensure they receive effective coaching and support throughout their journey.
Ultimately, you’ll drive stronger consultant activity, merchant acquisition and retention while building excellent geographical coverage across the region.
Why join SumUp?

If you’re an experienced field sales leader who enjoys recruiting great people, developing talent and building something that can grow, we’d love to hear from you.
