Job Description

At Syngenta, our goal is to build the most collaborative and trustworthy team in agriculture, providing top-quality seeds and innovative crop protection solutions that improve farmers' success. To support this mission, Syngenta’s seeking an R&D Scientist 1 in Vero Beach, FL, USA. Join Syngenta's Crop Protection team and be an influential member of the Vero Beach Research Center R&D team by designing, initiating, and conducting laboratory, greenhouse, and field research that advances Syngenta’s nematicide and soil health innovation pipeline.

Accountabilities 

• Design, execute, and manage laboratory, greenhouse, and field trials to evaluate the efficacy and performance of nematicide and soil health products.
• Lead nematode and soil-borne disease research activities, including developing, maintaining, and improving testing platforms and methodologies.
• Serve as the technical subject matter expert for nematology, soil health, and Southern crops, including peanuts and rice.
• Plan and implement research studies by developing trial protocols, experimental designs, data collection methods, and project timelines.
• Analyze and communicate research results, providing technical recommendations that support product development, positioning, registration, and labeling efforts.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, research partners, and stakeholders while supporting training, demonstration trials, and the advancement of innovative crop protection solutions.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Biological Sciences (preferred fields include Nematology, Plant Pathology, or Soil Science) or an M.S. degree with a minimum of three years of relevant research experience.
• Working knowledge of nematode biology, soil-borne diseases, and crop protection product development.
• Experience conducting small-plot field research and laboratory and/or greenhouse studies in an agricultural research environment.
• Demonstrated experience with experimental design, statistical analysis, data interpretation, and technical report writing.
• Strong analytical, critical-thinking, planning, and organizational skills with a commitment to data quality and research integrity.
• Effective written, verbal, and presentation communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across cross-functional teams and external partners.
• Proficiency using research and data management tools and the ability to independently develop technical expertise and provide recommendations that support research and product development decisions.

Additional Information

Salary for this position ranges between $88,000 - $132,000 annually.
