Head of Data, Analytics and AI
Looking for a workplace for the future?
At Telenor, you own your career. Here, you’ll have the opportunity to make the most of your dreams and expertise while contributing to technological innovations that are barely even imagined today. Innovations that we know will change the map for how we communicate and live our connected lives in the future. Are you looking for a workplace where you can make a difference in what matters most – relationships between people? Then you are welcome to Telenor.
How you'll make a difference with us
Telenor Sweden is on an exciting journey rebuilding a fragmented data landscape into a cloud-native foundation and moving from AI experimentation to adoption across the company.
In this role, you will lead our Analytics, Data Management, Automation & AI organisation, consisting of approximately 50 employees and consultants across data engineering, analytics, business intelligence, data platforms, architecture, marketing technology, AI and automation. You will have three leaders reporting to you, own a budget of approximately 90 MSEK, report to the CIO and be part of the IT Management Team.
The department has been on a transformation journey for several years. The next step is about turning investments in data, AI and automation into measurable business value. You will play a key role in connecting technology, people and business outcomes while building the capabilities needed for the future.
What success looks like
Rather than list everything you will be responsible for, here is what we want to be true 18 months in:
AI and automation solutions are running in production with clear ownership, monitoring and lifecycle management
Investments in data and AI are followed up based on adoption and business outcomes, with AI, analytics and automation delivering measurable commercial value.
Data and AI capabilities are broadly adopted across the organisation, supported by strong data governance, responsible AI practices, self-service analytics and increased AI literacy.
Legacy platforms have been decommissioned and core data assets migrated to our GCP-based data foundation.
You have continued to develop an engaged, high-performing organisation with the competence and capabilities needed for the future.
Are you the one we're looking for?
We are looking for a strategic and business-oriented technology leader who combines strong leadership with deep knowledge of data, analytics and AI.
To be clear, this is a leadership role in a technical domain, not a technical role with people attached. You need enough depth to make sound calls on architecture, investment and risk, but leading people, driving change and connecting technology to business outcomes matters just as much.
Five things. If you bring these, we would like to talk to you.
You have led a data, analytics or AI organisation and defined enterprise-wide direction, turning strategy into roadmaps, priorities and trade-offs that people can act on, including influencing senior leaders on investments and priorities.
You have taken data or AI initiatives from proof of concept through to production, adoption and measurable value at scale, including leading the change work required across multiple business functions, leveraging strong business acumen to align technology investments with strategic priorities and serving as a trusted advisor to leaders on data, AI and transformation opportunities.
You have modernised a complex data landscape, moving from legacy platforms to scalable cloud architecture.
You know modern cloud data architecture, AI and Generative AI, particularly cloud data and AI environments such as GCP, BigQuery and Vertex AI, well enough to make good calls. You also know what responsible AI requires in practice: governance, transparency, privacy, data quality, model risk management and regulatory compliance.
You have owned budgets and investment portfolios, including CAPEX and OPEX planning, forecasting, prioritisation and financial follow-up, and led vendor and partner ecosystems, including build, buy or partner decisions and strategic technology partnerships.
If you recognise yourself in most of this, but not all of it, apply anyway and tell us how you would close the gap.
Experience from telecommunications or another data-intensive and regulated industry is an advantage, as is exposure to MLOps, intelligent automation or enterprise-wide AI governance. We also see experience from Nordic or international organisations as valuable. Swedish is not required, as our working language is English, although Swedish language skills would be beneficial for effective stakeholder management and communication across the organisation.
Most importantly, you bring a strong business mindset and understand how data, analytics and AI create value. Whether gained through hands-on work with analytics, commercial initiatives or business transformation, you know how to translate customer and business needs into insights, decisions and measurable outcomes.
How you lead
You make complexity manageable. You set a clear direction so people know what matters most and why — and you build strong leaders around you who can act on it without waiting for permission.
You are as comfortable in a technical discussion as in a business one, and you move easily between them. Complex topics become choices people understand and want to be part of. You question how things are done when it's needed, but you bring people with you rather than leaving them behind.
And when priorities compete and everything depends on everything else, you're the one who creates focus. You make the trade-offs, explain the thinking behind them, and keep the organisation moving.
