Reporting to: Head of Service who is a Director of Apex Unitas and is based in London
Working Environment: Based in Valencia, with regular collaboration and engagement with colleagues in London.
Role Summary:
As a Senior Associate, you will play a pivotal role in supporting the continued growth of Unitas and the development of its operations presence within Apex Group's Valencia office. This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic and evolving team, where you will be responsible for delivering high-quality operational support across key back-office functions, with an initial focus on Payments & Transactions and Investor Onboarding.
As the first dedicated Unitas hire in Valencia, you will enjoy a high level of visibility and ownership, working autonomously while collaborating with global stakeholders to help shape scalable, efficient, and best-in-class operational processes. This role is ideally suited to a proactive and detail-oriented professional who is motivated by the opportunity to make a meaningful impact as the business continues to grow.
Key Responsibilities:
Execute end-to-end payment processes, including multi-stage data extraction, validation, manipulation, and input across multiple systems in a timely manner, ensuring appropriate controls are followed throughout.
Maintain comprehensive supporting documentation for all payment activity, ensuring auditability and adherence to internal procedures.
Monitor bank account activity, investigate breaks, and resolve transaction queries • Perform detailed data processing across internal systems and banking platforms, ensuring accuracy and consistency of record.
Support reporting of payment and transaction activity to clients, ensuring completeness and integrity of information.
Respond to client and internal queries relating to payments and transactions in a clear and professional manner.
Control & Risk Awareness:
Maintain awareness of regulatory requirements, ideally including the UK’s FCA client asset and money regulation
Ensure adherence to internal policies, procedures, and control frameworks
Escalate issues and risks in a timely and appropriate manner
Team Build-Out Contribution:
Operate independently as the initial Valencia hire, demonstrating ownership and accountability
Support the development of processes and documentation to enable future team scaling
Provide informal guidance and support to more junior team members as the local team grows (initially no formal management responsibility)
Contribute to building a strong, collaborative team culture in Valencia
Will initially eventually lead a team of junior employees in Valencia.
Skills and Competencies Required:
Relevant experience in financial services operations.
Background in fund services, custody, or platform operations environments.
Experience working with financial services back-office systems and workflows.
Fluent in English, additional languages considered a plus.
Strong understanding of payments and transactions processes within an operational setting.
Attention to detail: Consistently delivers accurate and high-quality work.
Ownership & accountability: Takes responsibility for tasks and sees them through to completion.
Ability to work independently.
Effectively manages multiple tasks and deadlines.
Strong communication skills: Clear and professional interaction with internal and external stakeholders.
Awareness of regulatory environments, ideally including FCA rules and client money requirements (CASS or equivalent).
Advanced Excel skills, with the ability to analyse and manipulate operational data.
