We are seeking a dedicated specialist to support a student navigating a recent transition to dual sensory loss. This is not a standard classroom role; you will be the student’s primary connection to the world, providing both Deaf-Blind Intervener support and Specialized Academic Instruction (SAI).
The Impact You’ll Make
As a Dual-Role Specialist, you will act as the student's "eyes and ears," utilizing tactile communication to bridge the gap between the curriculum and the student’s environment.
- Access & Advocacy: Use tactile sign language and hand-over-hand methodologies to facilitate expressive and receptive communication.
- Instructional Leadership: Deliver SAI tailored to the student’s IEP goals, ensuring no "dead time" in their educational development.
- Environmental Mapping: Help the student navigate and "map" their surroundings to foster independence and autonomy.
- Collaborative Success: Work directly with the District’s Due Process department to fulfill compensatory education requirements.
