Senior Bookkeeper - Work From Home | Day Shift
The Senior Bookkeeper will take ownership of day-to-day bookkeeping and finance activities across accounts payable, accounts receivable, reconciliations and financial records. The role requires strong technical understanding, initiative and business awareness, with the ability to identify discrepancies, investigate issues, communicate confidently with stakeholders and follow matters through to resolution.
- Manage day-to-day accounts payable and accounts receivable processes, including account setup, invoicing, payments, reconciliations and account maintenance.
- Take ownership of finance queries, discrepancies and outstanding matters, investigating issues and following them through to resolution or appropriate escalation.
- Perform bank, supplier, customer, credit card and other relevant account reconciliations, ensuring discrepancies are identified and resolved promptly.
- Maintain accurate financial records and ensure transactions are appropriately coded and described so that financial information is clear and meaningful to end users.
- Apply a sound understanding of profit and loss and balance sheet accounts when processing and reviewing financial transactions.
- Monitor outstanding balances and proactively follow up customers, suppliers and internal stakeholders where action or clarification is required.
- Review recurring invoices and charges against relevant agreements or supporting documentation, identifying and querying unexpected changes.
- Support capital expenditure and work-in-progress accounting by identifying, collating and referencing related invoices and supporting documentation.
- Assist with journals and supporting information relating to capital expenditure, fixed assets and other finance activities as required.
- Process employee expense claims and complete corporate credit card reconciliations accurately and on time.
- Support payroll processing by providing relevant financial information and assisting with payroll-related queries as required.
- Assist the finance team with monthly, quarterly and annual reporting requirements by preparing accurate schedules, records and supporting information.
- Support annual audit requirements by collating complete transaction evidence, including invoices, approvals, payment records and supporting documentation.
- Use ERP systems effectively and contribute to improvements in finance processes, automation, reconciliations and reporting workflows.
- Communicate confidently with suppliers, customers, managers and internal stakeholders by email, phone and Teams to clarify transactions and resolve issues.
- Participate actively in finance team discussions, raise concerns when something appears incorrect and contribute to practical solutions.
- Support selected operational and logistics administration activities where they relate to finance processes or broader business requirements.
- Other position-level duties as they arise.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree, certificate or diploma in Accounting, Business Administration or a related discipline is preferred.
- Minimum 5 years’ relevant bookkeeping or finance experience, including end-to-end accounts payable, accounts receivable and account reconciliations, is essential.
- Strong practical understanding of end-to-end bookkeeping, accounts payable and accounts receivable processes are essential.
- Strong understanding of profit and loss and balance sheet accounts and how day-to-day transactions affect financial reporting is essential.
- Demonstrated experience completing account reconciliations and independently investigating discrepancies is essential.
- Demonstrated ability to take ownership of finance queries and follow outstanding matters through to resolution is essential.
- Experience supporting capital expenditure, fixed assets or work-in-progress accounting is highly regarded.
- Experience preparing supporting documentation and transaction evidence for external audit requirements is highly regarded.
- Experience working with ERP systems is essential, with NetSuite experience highly regarded.
- Experience contributing to ERP improvements, automation or finance process enhancements is highly regarded.
- Strong Microsoft Excel proficiency is essential.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to recognise when financial information appears incorrect or requires further investigation, are essential.
- Strong initiative and the ability to work independently while knowing when to seek guidance or escalate an issue are essential.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with confidence communicating directly with suppliers, customers, managers and internal stakeholders, are essential.
- High attention to detail and accuracy across financial transactions, reconciliations, coding and supporting documentation is essential.
- Strong organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and outstanding matters effectively, are essential.
- Experience within a wholesale, timber, construction or similar operational environment is highly regarded.
