Whether you’re into our values, our brand, or our egg-cellent puns, we hope you’ll join our Crew and help us change the world 108 square feet at a time!
At Vital Farms, we’re proud of the diverse communities we serve and the stakeholders who help bring our purpose to life. We’re committed to fostering an inclusive and collaborative environment where every crew member feels valued. We see this as one of our greatest strengths - and your role is key to helping us build on it.
Your Role:
At Vital Farms, we believe in cultivating a people-first experience grounded in integrity, transparency, and operational excellence. The People Generalist plays a key role in delivering exceptional HR support to our crew and the People Team. This role is responsible for executing core HR processes and providing timely, accurate support related to attendance, payroll assistance, onboarding, systems upkeep, and employment documentation. As the first point of contact for People-related system inquiries, this role ensures smooth operations and a positive crew experience by managing the Vital HR email inbox and supporting a wide range of administrative and systems-based HR functions.
What You'll Do:
- - Maintain a consistent, highly visible presence on the plant floor across shifts. Spend the majority of working time close to crew members and operations, proactively building relationships, observing needs firsthand, and addressing questions and opportunities at the source.
- - Provide employee relations support by responding to routine concerns, coaching supervisors on policy application and next steps, supporting corrective action documentation, assisting with investigations, and coordinating termination and offboarding processes when needed.
- - Provide significant onsite learning and development support by assessing local needs and designing, coordinating, and facilitating practical training, orientation content, policy rollouts, and crew education across shifts.
- - Serve as an accessible leadership coach for supervisors and managers, providing real-time coaching, reinforcing effective people leadership practices, and helping leaders translate learning into consistent actions on the plant floor.
- - Use regular plant-floor engagement to identify emerging crew, leadership, learning, and operational needs; turn those observations into timely coaching, practical solutions, and innovative improvements.
- - Manage HRIS administration in UKG, including new hire setup, employee record maintenance, E-Verify completion, status changes, transfers, department moves, reporting structure updates, timeclock assignments, onboarding activities, and basic system troubleshooting.
- - Run routine and ad hoc reports, including attendance, headcount, turnover, staffing, labor, workforce maintenance, and other reports requested by leaders or the People Team.
- - Review attendance reports and point balances, audit attendance accuracy, support attendance point administration, and guide supervisors through attendance discipline levels and policy application.
- - Assist with payroll preparation, payroll audits, timekeeping review, missed punches, punch exceptions, and timekeeping discrepancies, including support during regular payroll cycles and holiday weeks.
- - Manage unemployment claims and documentation by gathering supporting records, coordinating responses, and partnering with leadership and the People Team on hearings and claim follow-up.
- - Complete employee verification requests accurately and confidentially, and maintain personnel files, HR documentation, and records in alignment with retention and compliance expectations.
- - Partner closely with Talent Acquisition partners and site leaders to support workforce planning, recruiting, and staffing needs.
- - Assist with escalated Talent Acquisition and crew member concerns that require People Team support, including rehire eligibility reviews, and availability verification.
- - Support crew engagement activities, recognition programs, communication, event execution, and other employee experience initiatives as needed.
- - Think innovatively about crew engagement, leader development, and People processes; identify practical improvements, test new approaches, and contribute to SOP creation, documentation, team meetings, and local People Team support.
What You Bring to the Table:
- - At least 3–5 years of experience in human resources, employee relations, People operations, payroll, or a related People function.
- - Experience supporting a manufacturing or other high-volume worksite preferred.
- - Bachelor’s degree in human resources, business, or a related field preferred, or equivalent work experience.
- - Working knowledge of employee relations practices, People policies, corrective action, investigations, and documentation expectations.
- - Experience supporting HRIS, payroll, timekeeping, reporting, onboarding, E-Verify, unemployment, and personnel recordkeeping processes; UKG experience preferred.
- - Demonstrated experience facilitating onsite learning, coaching frontline leaders, and delivering crew-facing training and communication in a practical, engaging, and approachable way.
- - Strong desire and demonstrated ability to work primarily onsite and on the plant floor, with the flexibility to build relationships and support crew members and leaders across shifts.
- - Ability to flex work hours to support business needs, including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
- - Strong customer-service mindset with the ability to support crew members and leaders with professionalism, confidentiality, and follow-through.
- - Excellent attention to detail, organization, prioritization, and ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- - Strong communication skills and the ability to build trusted relationships across shifts, departments, supervisors, managers, and People Team partners.
- - Proactive, dependable, and comfortable working independently while knowing when to escalate sensitive or complex situations.
- - Strong computer skills and ability to use applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, and HR systems.
- - Ability to travel 10–20% of the time for company meetings, team offsites, or training sessions.
- - You’re no hero – You know the power of teamwork and celebrate the work of others before your own.
- - You give a sh*t – You believe in acting like an owner and making Vital Farms a place to be proud of.
- - You raise the standards – You know growth can be hard, but you strive to improve yourself and others each day.
