Area Technical Support Manager
Job Description
Who will you be working with?
You will work closely with the Global Mining Service organization, OHV Engineering teams, OEM partners, distributors, mining customers, warranty teams, and product support specialists. This role requires frequent collaboration with cross-functional stakeholders to ensure reliability, performance, and continuous improvement of Wabtec OHV Drive Systems throughout the assigned region.
How will you make a difference?
As a member of the Mining Services division, you will be responsible for providing technical leadership and field support for Wabtec OHV Drive Systems across Chile and other assigned territories. You will oversee commissioning activities, troubleshoot technical issues, support warranty investigations, and ensure customers receive timely and effective service solutions. This role serves as a critical link between customers, OEMs, distributors, and Wabtec engineering teams by identifying issues, driving corrective actions, and improving overall equipment reliability and performance. You will also monitor fleet performance, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that strengthen customer satisfaction and operational excellence.
What do we want to know about you?
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Automation & Control Engineering, or related discipline with a minimum of 3 years of experience supporting OHV mining vehicles; or
- Technical degree, diploma, or equivalent qualification in Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, or Automation & Control disciplines with a minimum of 5 years of relevant field service, technical, or engineering experience involving OHV mining vehicles.
- Experience with OHV mining equipment design, validation, testing, commissioning, and field support.
- Strong technical troubleshooting skills and experience using engineering software, diagnostic tools, and business systems.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, collaboration, and leadership skills.
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 80% of the time.
- Experience working in active mining environments, including high-altitude operations.
- English proficiency preferred.
What will your typical day look like?
- Perform commissioning and startup activities for newly installed OHV Drive Systems following Wabtec Vehicle Test Instructions (VTIs).
- Diagnose and troubleshoot technical issues through onsite inspections, remote support, and system data analysis.
- Monitor OHV fleet performance, identify root causes of failures, and coordinate corrective actions with engineering and product teams.
- Submit field reports, commissioning reports, and technical findings through Salesforce, ServiceMax, and other approved systems.
- Review warranty claims, provide technical assessments, and support failure investigations and component teardown activities.
- Coordinate return shipments of RMA components for factory analysis and resolution.
- Participate in NPI programs and provide field support for new product introductions.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with customers, OEMs, distributors, and internal stakeholders.
- Participate in customer meetings, fleet reviews, biweekly OEM meetings, monthly ASM updates, and other required business reviews.
- Promote safety, regulatory compliance, One Wabtec culture, and continuous improvement initiatives throughout the assigned territory.
Work Environment
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 80% of the time.
- Ability to safely perform work in active mining environments while complying with all customer and site safety requirements.
- Hybrid work environment requiring a combination of remote work and onsite presence based on business needs.
- Position may require work at high-altitude mining operations up to 5,500 meters (18,000 feet) above sea level and compliance with site-specific occupational health requirements.
