Staff Accountant - CO

staffOn-site (Bogotá)Salary undisclosed
Job Description

About the Role: We are seeking an experienced Contador Público to own the accounting and tax preparation for our Colombian entity and to support accounting across our US entities. Reporting to the Accounting Supervisor, this role pairs Colombian statutory and tax compliance with hands-on US entity accounting and ownership of the accounts receivable cycle.

You will work alongside our Colombia-based Junior Accountant, who owns accounts payable. Between you, the two of you cover the transactional cycle end to end.

This is a hands-on role on a small team, with real ownership of the Colombian compliance calendar and exposure well beyond a single set of books. It is ideal for someone who has worked in small to mid-sized companies or in the Colombian subsidiary of a multinational, where adaptability, ownership, and wearing multiple hats are essential, and who wants scope beyond a single set of books.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to

  • Own Colombian statutory accounting and tax compliance, including:
    • The full accounting cycle under NIIF as adopted in Colombia (Decreto 2420 de 2015), on the PUC, through monthly and annual financial statements
    • The DIAN calendar: IVA, retención en la fuente, autorretención de renta, and the annual declaración de renta
    • ICA and retención de ICA in each municipality where the company is registered
    • Información exógena, including the third-party reconciliation work through the year that keeps the annual filing routine
    • Facturación electrónica, documento soporte, and nómina electrónica
    • Payroll compliance: PILA, seguridad social and parafiscales, and prestaciones sociales (prima, cesantías and intereses, vacaciones), including liquidaciones
    • Cross-border requirements: declaraciones de cambio and Banco de la República registration for funding and service flows with the US parent
    • Intercompany support through the year, and coordination of transfer pricing documentation with the external advisor
    • Coordination of the revisor fiscal and external tax advisors, and Cámara de Comercio renewals
  • Support accounting for our US entities, including:
    • Monthly entity-level close across multiple US entities and business units
    • Fixed asset registers and depreciation schedules
    • Debt and note amortization schedules, interest accruals, and lender reporting
    • Capital expenditures and reserves
    • Recurring accruals, including taxes and insurance
    • Intercompany balances and owner distributions, kept in agreement across entities
  • Support the Accounts Receivable (AR) cycle, including:
    • Preparing, sending, and tracking invoices
    • Cash application, credits, and invoice adjustments
    • Collections follow-up and aging review
    • AR at close: revenue cut-off, unbilled and deferred balances, and reserve assessment
  • Prepare month-end and year-end close entries, accruals, and reconciliations in QuickBooks.
  • Perform bank and balance sheet reconciliations to a documented standard, with support attached.
  • Partner with the Junior Accountant on the AP side, and cover for each other when needed.
  • Maintain accurate financial records and audit-ready documentation.
  • Build ad hoc schedules and analysis for the Accounting Supervisor and Head of Finance, in English, often on short notice.
  • Help implement accounting best practices and process improvements.
  • Jump into other accounting projects and ad-hoc tasks as business needs evolve.

Requirements

  • Título de Contador Público from a Colombian university recognized by the Ministerio de Educación.
  • Active Colombian CPA license (Tarjeta Profesional - JCC) required. Candidates will provide their tarjeta number and a current certificate of antecedentes disciplinarios.
  • 4+ years of accounting experience after the tarjeta, including preparing a company's complete filings end to end, not just supplying inputs.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field (Contaduría Pública).
  • Demonstrated experience preparing a full DIAN calendar end to end: IVA, retención, renta, exógena.
  • Hands-on Colombian payroll and seguridad social experience.
  • Multi-entity experience. You have closed more than one set of books in the same month and kept intercompany straight between them.
  • Hands-on accounts receivable ownership, including collections and the AR side of close.
  • Experience using accounting or billing platforms (e.g., Siigo, World Office, Helisa, QuickBooks, Bill.com).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets. You can build a reconciliation, not just complete one.
  • Background in small to mid-sized companies, or in the Colombian subsidiary of a multinational, where roles are less siloed and adaptability is required.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to handle sensitive financial information with discretion.
  • Clear communication skills and a team-oriented mindset.
  • Fluency in English is required (C1 or above). Part of the interview is conducted in English, and you will write in English daily.

Preferred

  • QuickBooks Online, especially across multiple company files, and Bill.com.
  • Experience inside the Colombian subsidiary of a US or European parent, with intercompany and transfer pricing exposure.
  • Experience working alongside or guiding a junior team member.
  • Especialización in impuestos, NIIF, or revisoría fiscal.

Our interview process includes, but is not limited to the following:

  • Excel knowledge and Typing Test

We offer a competitive salary and benefits based on ability level, including:

  • Base salary DOE
  • Unlimited vacation policy
  • Monthly phone/internet and food stipend
  • Health insurance coverage
  • Professional Development Program
  • Must be based in Bogotá, Colombia

Note. Please submit your resume in English.
