Job Description

Zenas is a clinical-stage global biopharmaceutical company committed to becoming a leader in the development and commercialization of transformative therapies for patients with autoimmune diseases. Our core business strategy combines our experienced leadership team with a disciplined product candidate acquisition approach to identify, acquire and develop product candidates globally that we believe can provide superior clinical benefits to patients living with autoimmune diseases. Zenas is advancing two late-stage, potential franchise molecules, obexelimab and orelabrutinib. Obexelimab, Zenas’ lead product candidate, is a bifunctional monoclonal antibody designed to bind both CD19 and FcγRIIb, which are broadly present across B cell lineage, to inhibit the activity of cells that are implicated in many autoimmune diseases without depleting them. We believe that obexelimab’s unique mechanism of action and self-administered, subcutaneous injection regimen may broadly and effectively address the pathogenic role of B cell lineage in chronic autoimmune disease. Orelabrutinib is a potentially best-in-class, highly selective CNS-penetrant, oral, small molecule Bruton’s Tyrosine Kinase (BTK) inhibitor with the potential to address compartmentalized inflammation and disease progression in Multiple Sclerosis (MS). Zenas’ earlier stage programs include ZB021, a clinical-stage, potentially best-in-class, oral, IL-17AA/AF inhibitor; ZB022, a preclinical, potentially best-in-class, oral, brain-penetrant, TYK2 inhibitor; and ZB014, a preclinical half-life extended anti-CD-19 and FcγRIIb monoclonal antibody.

We are seeking top talent who share our commitment to patients and have a track record of success in acquiring, developing and commercializing products across the globe. Our colleagues have an opportunity to engage in a fast-paced learning environment and experience individual and organizational success as we work towards becoming a global immunology and autoimmune disease leader, while living our values of Transparency, Relationships, Urgency, Excellence and Innovation – TRUE Innovation!

Position Summary:

Reporting to the VP Finance & Corporate Controller, the Director, Revenue Accounting is a highly visible individual contributor role and the company’s subject matter expert, responsible for establishing and executing revenue recognition, gross-to-net (GTN), and accounts receivable accounting in advance of, and following, Zenas’ anticipated commercial launch. In the months leading up to launch, the Director will build on the gross-to-net foundation already in place, applying deep biotech and life sciences expertise to refine and finalize the accounting policies, estimation methodologies, internal controls, and system and data requirements needed to deliver accurate and timely product revenue reporting; after launch, the Director will own the order-to-cash accounting process and serve as the technical authority on revenue and GTN matters. The Director will partner closely with FP&A, Market Access, Government Pricing, Commercial Operations, and third-party partners, influencing decisions while applying technical expertise, commercial judgment, and a continuous improvement mindset in a dynamic, innovation-focused environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the technical authority for revenue recognition and gross-to-net accounting: build on established processes ahead of commercial launch by challenging, refining, and finalizing revenue recognition policies and estimation methodologies, validating ASC 606 variable consideration and constraint analyses, and identifying and closing gaps before the first commercial sale.
  • Following launch, own the revenue, GTN, and accounts receivable close activities, including journal entries, reserve calculations, rollforwards, reconciliations, and true-ups for chargebacks, government and commercial rebates, distribution fees, product returns, and patient support programs, and own the key estimates and judgments underlying them.
  • Manage billing, invoicing, and related accounts receivable activities, including partner pricing reconciliations and project accounting.
  • Evaluate distributor, payer, and partner contracts and other commercial arrangements for ASC 606 compliance, prepare technical accounting memoranda to document conclusions, and advise Commercial and Finance leadership on the accounting implications of proposed contract terms and pricing strategies before they are finalized.
  • Partner with Market Access, Government Pricing, Commercial Operations, and FP&A to validate contract terms, pricing, and utilization data, and to provide GTN forecasts, trend analyses, and channel inventory insights that inform business decisions; leverage deep industry knowledge to anticipate GTN trends and risks, and share expertise to build revenue and GTN knowledge across Finance and Commercial partners.
  • Serve as the revenue accounting lead for the implementation, testing, and launch readiness of ERP, contract management, and rebate processing systems, as well as data feeds from third-party logistics providers, specialty distributors, and claims vendors.
  • Finalize, document, test, and maintain revenue accounting policies and SOX controls, serve as the primary revenue accounting contact for internal and external audits, and support quarterly and annual SEC reporting, including revenue and GTN disclosures, with high-quality documentation and timely responses.
  • Identify and drive process improvements, including automation and data analytics, to enhance accuracy, efficiency, and scalability as the commercial business grows; when issues arise, drive resolution and elevate matters of significance to the VP Finance & Corporate Controller.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 6 years of deep, hands-on revenue recognition (ASC 606) and gross-to-net accounting experience at a commercial-stage pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or life sciences company.
  • CPA preferred
  • Expert knowledge of GTN components and government pricing programs, such as chargebacks, Medicaid, 340B, Medicare Part D, and commercial and GPO rebates.
  • Strong knowledge of US GAAP and SEC reporting, and experience with SOX internal controls design and testing.
  • Proficiency with a major ERP system (e.g., NetSuite, SAP, or Oracle) and advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously, prioritizing effectively to deliver quality work within tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work independently and influence without direct authority, building strong working relationships and sharing knowledge across Finance, Commercial, and other functions, with excellent communication skills, including the ability to explain complex accounting judgments to senior leaders and auditors, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to change direction quickly as business needs evolve and to help partners navigate change during the transition from clinical to commercial stage.
  • Deep understanding of the biotech industry landscape, payer and distribution dynamics, and how revenue accounting supports broader company objectives, with a commitment to continuous learning, mentoring others, and giving and receiving feedback.

Preferred:

  • Experience supporting a commercial product launch, including operationalizing newly designed GTN processes and controls.
  • Experience with rebate, contract management, or GTN systems.
  • Public accounting experience with life sciences revenue exposure.
  • Experience with collaboration or ex-US partner revenue arrangements (e.g., ASC 808).
  • Experience with automation and data analytics tools to streamline close and reporting processes.
