AI Solutions Engineer

Hoboken (HQ), NJ, USA, United States Full-time 3+ yrs

We believe in bold ideas, diverse perspectives, and the drive to transform knowledge into impact. Here, your curiosity fuels progress, your voice shapes innovation, and your ambition helps redefine what’s possible within science and learning. We are a culture that obsesses over impact, challenges, and drives what’s next to power infinite possibilities for our customers, colleagues and society at large.

About the Role:

We are hiring an AI Solutions Engineer who will be deployed into business teams and work directly with them. You start with tools, not code. Microsoft Power Platform, AI services and existing Wiley systems should solve most problems. You write custom code only when a tool can't do the job. You belong to the Automation and AI Enablement team in Platform Engineering. That team gives you engineering standards, code review, security and governance guidance, and a career path. Your daily work happens with the business team you support, starting with Business Operations & Strategic Programs in Research.

Here are examples of problems you will need to help with:

  • Capturing information from documents. Teams re-key details from submitted forms into business systems by hand. Reduce the manual effort while keeping every record accurate.
  • Preparing consistent business documents. Staff assemble proposals from guidelines, templates and business data spread across several sources. Make this faster and keep the output consistent and compliant.
  • Answering routine data questions. Colleagues dig through reports to answer simple, recurring questions. Make the answers easier to get without losing accuracy.

What you'll do

  • Work directly with business teams. Be deployed into a business team, work alongside them day to day, shadow their workflows, and find where time is lost to repetitive or manual work.
  • Move from team to team. You are forward deployed: expect to work with one business team at a time, then move to the next once its solutions are running and owned.
  • Shape the problem before solving it. Turn loose requests into clear problem statements, success measures and a recommended approach. Push back when a simpler fix exists.
  • Build with tools first. Deliver solutions with Power Automate, Power Apps, Copilot Studio, AI Builder and Dataverse. Add LLM APIs, scripts or custom code only where the platform falls short.
  • Apply AI where it helps. Use document extraction, summarization, retrieval and agents when they beat rules-based automation. Design in checks so outputs stay accurate.
  • Upskill the team with AI. Teach the business team to use AI in their own work through hands-on sessions, pairing and simple guides, so the capability stays after you leave.
  • Ship fast, then harden. Get a working version in front of users in weeks, then take it to production with the Automation and AI Enablement team: security review, testing, monitoring and support handoff.
  • Build for the team that owns it. Every solution must be maintainable and manageable by the business team you built it for. Keep it simple, document it, and leave no hidden dependency on you.
  • Integrate with Wiley systems. Connect solutions to SharePoint, Teams, Outlook, Salesforce, Power BI and line-of-business systems using connectors and APIs.
  • Stay on the golden path. Use Platform Engineering's standards, environments and hosting (including PartyBus for anything that needs a home). Don't build one-off infrastructure.
  • Measure and share. Track hours saved, error rates and adoption for each solution. Write up what works so other teams can reuse it.
  • Bring patterns home. Feed reusable components and lessons back to the Automation and AI Enablement team so the next engagement starts faster.

What you bring

  • 3+ years building business automation or internal tools that real users rely on.
  • Hands-on delivery with Microsoft Power Platform: Power Automate (cloud and desktop flows) and Power Apps, plus Dataverse or SharePoint as a data layer.
  • Practical experience using LLMs or AI services in a working solution, such as Azure OpenAI, Copilot Studio, AI Builder or a model API, including prompt design and output checks.
  • Comfortable using AI as a working partner to solve problems: exploring a problem, comparing approaches, and drafting and testing a solution with tools such as Copilot, Claude or Cursor.
  • Scripting for integration and automation in Python, PowerShell, JavaScript or similar. You can call a REST API and handle JSON.
  • A track record of working directly with non-technical stakeholders: running discovery, mapping a process, and explaining trade-offs in plain language.
  • Judgment to pick the simplest thing that works, and to say no to building when a configured tool will do.
  • Comfort working on your own inside a business team while following engineering standards for security, testing and documentation.

Nice to have

  • Microsoft certifications such as PL-200 (Power Platform Functional Consultant), PL-400 (Power Platform Developer) or AI-102 (Azure AI Engineer).
  • Experience with RPA tools such as UiPath or Power Automate Desktop.
  • Retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), document intelligence or agent frameworks used in a business setting.
  • Background in publishing, research or another content-heavy business.
  • Prior work as a forward deployed engineer, solutions engineer or embedded consultant.
