Anti-Fraud Specialist (Transaction Monitoring & Investigations)

On-site Riga, Latvia Full-time 5+ yrs

Anti-Fraud Team (Compliance & Risk) · Riga, Latvia · On-site · Rotating shifts · Full-time

Real fraud cases, real regulators, a crypto platform at scale

Our client is a global fintech where crypto meets traditional payments. Customers buy, sell and swap 90+ cryptocurrencies by card, SEPA, SWIFT and local payment methods. The company has served 8.6M+ customers in 180+ countries and processed more than $5.5B in lifetime volume, and it has done it since 2014 without outside investors.

Now the Anti-Fraud team is growing, and the company is building full 24/7 monitoring coverage. We are looking for an analyst to join it.

If you already investigate alerts and want to work on a platform with a much wider regulatory footprint than a typical local bank or payment company, read on.

Why this role is interesting

  • Work across multiple regulatory frameworks. The company holds MiCA CASP authorisation and a Payment Institution (PSD2) licence in Latvia, with additional registrations in the US, Canada, and Poland. You'll investigate suspicious activity, prepare SAR documentation, and contribute to compliance reviews and regulatory audits across multiple jurisdictions.

  • You see both retail and enterprise risk. One side is millions of small retail transactions. The other is 100+ enterprise customers with fewer, much larger payments. The risk looks different in each, and you learn both.

  • The fraud typologies are current. Account takeover, refund fraud, mule accounts, layering, sanctions exposure and trade-based money laundering, traced with blockchain analytics tools such as Chainalysis, Elliptic or TRM Labs.

  • Your work counts toward the company's growth. Your documented cases and controls are part of the evidence for audits and for new licensing the company is preparing (including the UK and Australia).

  • You are not a number in a queue. The team is one Anti-Fraud Lead and around ten specialists. You work directly with the Lead on investigations and SAR filing.

  • The company pays for your development. There is an education budget for compliance certifications such as CAMS and IAPP, and on-the-job training on the company's systems.

What you will do

  • Review transaction monitoring alerts and decide what is a real signal and what is noise

  • Investigate suspicious activity: trace transaction chains, link related accounts and build a clear fraud narrative

  • Prepare case files and SAR packages for FinCEN, FINTRAC and other authorities, accurately and on time

  • Run Enhanced Due Diligence on high-risk customers: source of funds, beneficial ownership, PEP and sanctions checks

  • Review KYC documents and run periodic reviews of existing customers

  • Flag new fraud patterns and suggest improvements to detection rules

  • Work with the KYC/AML, Customer Support and Finance teams on investigation outcomes

What your first year looks like

  • First 3 months: you learn the systems (transaction monitoring, case management, KYC database, SAR workflow) and take on investigations and customer reviews with growing independence.

  • By 6 months: you work shifts independently, complete investigations within SLA and run EDD for high-risk customers.

  • By 12 months: you spot new patterns early and propose improvements to detection rules and processes.

Who we are looking for

You have

  • At least 1.5 years of experience in transaction monitoring, AML, fraud investigation or KYC/CDD investigations in a regulated financial environment (bank, payment institution, fintech or crypto company)

  • Experience investigating alerts and writing up the result in a clear case file

  • An analytical mind and a good eye for detail: you notice what others miss

  • Professional English, written and spoken, because all case files, SARs and regulator communication are in English

  • Readiness to work rotating shifts on-site in Riga

  • The right to work in Latvia, or readiness to relocate (please tell us your situation)

It is a plus if you have

  • Crypto, CASP or fintech experience, or hands-on work with blockchain analytics tools

  • SAR/STR filing experience (FinCEN, FINTRAC or EU)

  • Experience with EDD, PEP and sanctions screening (OFAC, EU lists)

  • Knowledge of AMLD5/6, BSA, FINTRAC rules, MiCA or VASP requirements

  • CAMS or a similar certification, or plans to get one

  • Basic SQL or data analysis skills

  • Practical use of AI tools in your investigation or documentation work

  • Latvian or Russian

No crypto background? Bank and payment-processor experience is welcome. Crypto specifics can be learned on the job.

Working conditions

  • Location: on-site in Riga, no remote option

  • Schedule: rotating shifts at 07:30, 15:30 and 23:30, including nights, weekends and holidays. Shift details are discussed during the hiring process.

  • Contract: full-time employment

  • Compensation: discussed individually, based on your experience, plus a performance-based annual bonus

  • Also included: medical insurance after probation, paid lunch in the office, free parking, corporate events

Hiring process

  1. Pre-screen call with a recruiter from our team

  2. HR interview: background, shift availability, AML experience, motivation

  3. Case exercise (45–60 minutes): a realistic alert, customer review and investigation that ends with a SAR decision

  4. Interview with the Anti-Fraud Lead: your past investigations, tools, regulatory knowledge and team fit

  5. Reference check
