Data Architect

Remote US, United States Full-time 5+ yrs

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Data Architect based in the United States.

As a Data Architect, you will lead the design and implementation of modern, scalable data platforms that help organizations transform complex information into actionable insights. You will specialize in building Data Lakehouse solutions on Google Cloud Platform, leveraging technologies such as BigQuery, Google Cloud Storage, BigLake, and Dataplex. Working closely with clients, you will translate business objectives and technical challenges into robust architectural strategies. You will guide the development of reliable data pipelines, governance frameworks, and secure data environments. Combining strategic architecture with hands-on engineering, you will help teams deliver high-performing and maintainable solutions. This role offers the opportunity to influence technical direction, mentor engineering talent, and advise clients on their data transformation journeys.

Accountabilities

In this role, you will provide technical leadership throughout the architecture, design, and delivery of enterprise data solutions. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Lead the end-to-end architecture, design, and implementation of scalable Data Lakehouse solutions on Google Cloud Platform (GCP), using BigQuery, Google Cloud Storage (GCS), BigLake, and Dataplex.

  • Work directly with clients to understand business objectives, data challenges, and technical requirements, translating them into architectural blueprints and actionable implementation plans.

  • Design and implement data pipelines for both real-time and batch ingestion using modern orchestration and streaming frameworks.

  • Establish and enforce best practices for data cataloging, metadata management, data lineage, and data quality across multiple systems.

  • Define and implement data security, access controls, and governance frameworks that meet enterprise and regulatory requirements.

  • Serve as the technical lead for project teams, mentoring engineers, reviewing technical solutions, and maintaining architectural consistency across deliverables.

  • Balance strategic architecture responsibilities with hands-on development, proof of concepts, technical deep dives, and data pipeline performance optimization.

  • Collaborate with stakeholders, cloud architects, and delivery leads to ensure successful solution adoption, scalability, and long-term maintainability.

  • Act as a trusted technical advisor during client engagements, clearly communicating architectural trade-offs, industry best practices, and technical recommendations.

  • Requirements

The ideal candidate will combine extensive data engineering and architecture experience with strong knowledge of cloud-based data platforms, technical leadership, and client engagement. Required qualifications include:

    • At least 6 years of progressive experience in software engineering and data platform development.

    • At least 5 years of experience architecting data platforms on Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and/or Databricks.

    • Proven hands-on experience designing and deploying Data Lakehouse platforms, including data products and medallion architectures.

    • Strong understanding of real-time and batch data ingestion patterns, ETL/ELT pipeline design, and data orchestration using tools such as Airflow, Pub/Sub, or comparable frameworks.

    • Expertise in data modeling, storage optimization, partitioning strategies, and performance tuning for large-scale analytical workloads.

    • Experience implementing data governance, security, and cataloging solutions using Dataplex, Data Catalog, IAM, or equivalent technologies.

    • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to engage technical and non-technical stakeholders and guide clients through complex solution decisions.

    • Demonstrated ability to lead multidisciplinary teams of engineers, analysts, and architects while combining architectural vision with hands-on delivery.

    • Strong problem-solving skills, intellectual curiosity, and the ability to move between high-level architecture discussions and detailed code-level troubleshooting.

    • Nice to have:

      • Experience with Databricks technologies, including Delta Lake and Unity Catalog.

      • Familiarity with hybrid GCP and Databricks data architectures.

      • Benefits

        • Annual salary range of $160,000–$200,000.

        • Comprehensive health insurance.

        • Paid vacation and paid time off (PTO).

        • Paid holidays.

        • Sick leave.

        • Parental leave.

        • Bereavement leave.

        • 401(k) retirement plan with employer matching contributions.

        • Employee referral bonuses.

        • Comprehensive benefits package designed to support employee well-being.
