Linux Systems Administrator – RoboGym (human)

On-site Metzingen / Riederich, Germany Full-time

Linux Systems Administrator – RoboGym (human)

The NEURA Gym is where fleets of humanoid robots practise real tasks and generate the multimodal training data Physical AI depends on. As Linux Systems Administrator, you are the Linux specialist in our two-person on-site IT team, working side by side with the Network & Systems Administrator. You keep the Linux infrastructure behind the training cells stable and make sure training data flows reliably to the cloud. You are also one of the people on site that developers, engineers, and robot trainers turn to when something IT-related needs attention, backed by the central IT team at NEURA group headquarters.

Your mission & challenges

  • Linux server operations: Administer and look after the lifecycle of the virtual Linux server fleet: provisioning, patching, and hardening.

  • Training data pipeline: Operate and monitor the path of training data from the training cells through the HCI platform to the cloud upload, and keep it reliable.

  • Monitoring & capacity: Watch system performance and infrastructure health, act on alerts, and resolve anomalies before they affect training.

  • Automation: Manage configuration and automate repeatable tasks with Ansible, shell, and Python.

  • On-site IT support: Be an approachable, visible contact for developers, engineers, and robot trainers. Provide Linux client support and share first-line support with your on-site colleague.

  • Working with developers: Support the integration of IT infrastructure into robotics and data products, and help find solutions that fit how the teams work.

  • Devices & lifecycle: Provision and support workstations, laptops, and peripherals, handle local onboarding and offboarding, and keep device records accurate.

  • One on-site team: Work side by side with the Network & Systems Administrator, share know-how, cover for each other, and step in across systems where you can.

  • HQ & vendors: Collaborate closely with the HQ IT team and with platform vendor support on HCI topics. Judge what is yours to fix and what belongs with HQ, and hand it over with the right context.

  • Documentation & process: Maintain operational documentation and runbooks. Follow and help refine central IT processes rather than building local workarounds.

  • Growing with the Gym: Share configuration standards and operating experience as further NEURA Gym sites are set up.

What we can look forward to

  • Degree in an IT-related field or completed IT apprenticeship (e.g. Fachinformatiker/in Systemintegration), with at least 3 years of professional experience in Linux system administration.

  • Extensive hands-on experience administering Linux systems (Ubuntu/Debian preferred).

  • Proficiency with Ansible and scripting languages (Python, shell).

  • Experience with virtualised infrastructure and HCI platforms.

  • Understanding of storage and networking concepts in high-throughput environments.

  • Basic knowledge of Windows system administration.

  • A service-minded, approachable way of working, and enjoyment in supporting colleagues directly on site.

  • A structured, independent working style and the confidence to take ownership.

  • Fluent English, spoken and written (B2+).

  • LPIC-1 or a comparable Linux certification is an advantage.
