Product Manager
Our Mission
Every day, people are waiting for a diagnosis, for a treatment, for a chance. Our mission is to help life-saving treatments reach patients faster.
That isn’t an abstraction to us. It’s the reason Unlearn exists, and it’s why the pace and rigor of our work matter so much.
What We Do
Unlearn is transforming clinical development by making every trial smarter. We partner with biopharmaceutical companies to redesign how clinical trials are planned, conducted, and analyzed. We use data, AI, and digital twins to make studies faster and more robust.
A digital twin is a comprehensive prediction of a patient’s expected outcomes under a defined standard of care. It is generated by machine learning models built on our proprietary technology. Leading pharma and biotech companies trust us to deliver scientifically rigorous work on studies where the stakes are high and the timelines impact patients.
Where We’re Going
Our goal is to become the gold standard for AI-driven clinical development. Getting there takes disciplined execution and data, models, and AI that is implemented with partners using a strong engineering foundation that holds up in a regulated, compliance-heavy environment. We’re building durable advantages rooted in science and innovative technologies, and that foundation is what will make our leadership last.
Our Values
Accountability, Agility, and Acceleration describe how we work with each other every day. Fulfilling our mission depends on all of us doing our best work, and it’s on all of us to build and protect the culture that makes that possible.
Accountability: We own outcomes, not just tasks
We take responsibility for results, make decisions with urgency, and follow through on our commitments. When things don’t go as planned, we say so. We surface issues early, learn, iterate quickly, and move forward without blame. We give and receive feedback that is clear, direct, and actionable.
Agility: We follow the evidence
Drug development and AI evolve rapidly. We stay curious, embrace new information, and change course when the evidence changes. We keep a close eye on where the industry is heading and build technology flexible enough to adapt when new data or opportunities arise. We value speed of learning over being right.
Acceleration: We create momentum
Our mission is to accelerate the development of new medicines, and that starts with how we work. We simplify, prioritize, and execute with urgency. Unlearners own the problems in front of them and are empowered to solve them. That helps our customers, our teammates, and our company move faster without sacrificing scientific rigor.
About Unlearn
Unlearn was founded in 2017 by a team of world-class machine learning scientists and is headquartered in San Francisco. We’re backed by top-tier investors including Altimeter, Insight Partners, Radical Ventures, 8VC, and DCVC. We have substantially advanced AI technology for clinical trials, including regulatory-grade applications, and are embedded in multiple clinical trials with top Pharma and Biotech companies.
About the role
We are building the gold standard workbench for Digital Twins in clinical development. That process starts with data. Clinical and healthcare data is messy, low information, and in many different formats. In order to realize the value the Digital Twins can offer, model building needs reliable data to build on.
You will own the area of the product that makes this happen. You will design and ship the parts of the workbench where people bring in and harmonize data, with AI agents taking on more of the mapping, checking, and cleanup, and people reviewing, correcting, and approving what the agents do. Underneath sits a knowledge layer: an ontology that records what our data means and how it connects. It is at an early stage, and it is intended to become what our agents rely on to do scientific work well. You will help shape it from the product side.
Your first users are our own scientists and services team, and you will work alongside them. The same tools will then move into customers' hands, so what you build is a core part of what Unlearn offers. You will work closely with engineers, designers, and scientists, and with the Head of Product, who sets overall direction with you.
What success looks like in your first 90 days
You understand how a new study's data gets into the workbench today: where people spend their time, which decisions they make again and again, and where what we learned from earlier studies gets lost. You have turned that into a clear, prioritized plan.
You have shipped at least one improvement our services team uses on real studies, in which an agent takes on part of the ingestion or mapping work and people can see, check, and correct what it did. It saves real time without lowering the quality of the data.
You have a way of working with engineering, design, and the services team that everyone trusts. Requests have a clear path to you, and people know what is coming and when.
What we're looking for
At least 3 years as a product manager, shipping products that technical or expert users rely on in their daily work, and that they adopted.
Experience shipping AI features where software does part of the work and a person stays in charge. You have worked out how people review and correct AI output, when it is safe for it to act on its own, and how to build users' trust over time.
Hands-on experience with data in more than one shape, such as tables, nested or document data, and graphs. You understand metadata and the work of mapping data from one model to another, and you are proficient in exploring data yourself.
Strong product and design judgment for complex workflows. You work closely with designers and engineers, and you prototype ideas yourself, including with AI tools, to test them before anyone builds them.
Clear written thinking, and the judgment to work independently within an agreed scope and to recognize when a decision should be made with others.
Nice to have
Experience with ontologies, knowledge graphs, or semantic technologies such as RDF, OWL, or property graphs.
Experience with clinical trial data or health data standards such as CDISC, FHIR, or OMOP.
Experience in the biopharma industry or in clinical development.
Experience building for scientists, statisticians, or other expert users.
Experience turning a tool built for an internal team into something customers use.
Location
We prefer someone who can work from our San Francisco office, and we will consider remote candidates if they are the right fit.
