Interested? Let’s talk about what we’re hiring for:

Are you the type of artist who looks at a blank canvas and sees endless possibilities rather than a roadblock? SkyBox Labs is looking for a Senior UI Artist to help define the visual identity of an exciting, unannounced new AAA project that we are co-developing alongside a globally recognized partner. In this role, you won’t just be inheriting an established style guide and churning out icons—you’ll be in the driver’s seat of visual exploration, pitching bold new concepts, and establishing the look, feel, and graphical language of our in-game interface from the ground up.

If you thrive on ambiguity, love generating a multitude of visual directions, and take pride in crafting high-impact UI that elevates the entire player experience, we want to hear from you.

This team works in a hybrid capacity, working three days a week at our studio in Burnaby, BC.

A snapshot of your role:

  • Shape the visual UI: Build the UI aesthetic from scratch. You’ll create high-fidelity target concepts and pre-visualizations that define the look and feel of all in-game UI visuals.
  • Ideate & iterate: Bring a plethora of creative solutions to the table. You are comfortable exploring wildly different visual tones and rapidly iterating based on team feedback.
  • Present & champion: Confidently pitch, explain, and validate your visual designs with key stakeholders and project partners.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally: Work in lockstep with UX Designers and Engineers to ensure designs are visually appealing, intuitive and performant.
  • Elevate the team: Support the team as needed, sharing advanced techniques in toolsets, and advocating for quality across the studio

Sound like you? This is what we’re looking for:

  • 5+ years of UI art experience in the gaming industry (AAA console/PC development experience strongly preferred).
  • Proven experience building UI visual direction from scratch—you’re a self-starter who thrives when given a blank slate and can run with a lack of initial clarity.
  • A body of work that showcases not just final production assets, but your creative ideation process—concept explorations, high-fidelity mockups, typography, composition, and game-ready UI art.
  • Expert proficiency in UI software such as Figma and the Adobe Creative Suite
  • A collaborative mindset with clear verbal and visual communication skills; you enjoy engaging with teammates, explaining your design decisions, and presenting to stakeholders.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of emerging UI trends and technologies/
  • Solid UX understanding: While this is a visual art role, you possess a keen understanding of UX principles, player ergonomics, and game accessibility standards.

Nice-to-Haves:

  • Experience acting as a team liaison, POC, or lead
  • Familiarity or working knowledge of Unreal Engine 5 (UE5) and UMG
Along with your resume, we ask that you please provide an up-to-date portfolio that demonstrates your UI art skills.

And here is why we think you'll love working at SkyBox:

  • Annual bonus and up to 3% RRSP matching available
  • Comprehensive health benefits, along with a supportive Maternity and Parental Leave policy
  • Flexible hybrid working arrangements: leverage our beautiful studio spaces as needed and have the ability to work from home on certain projects
  • Take care of your mental health with our Employee Assistance Program, 3 weeks of vacation leave, and our free gym at our Burnaby Studio
  • We relentlessly support your growth and development! Level up your C++ skills at SkyBox University, explore other disciplines through our Guild Program, and expand your game dev knowledge with Lunch & Learns. You’ll join a culture of empowerment, collaboration, and personal growth.
  • Social events! Have fun with the team at trivia nights, karaoke nights, movie nights, and various group activities. Join our soccer team, game jams, or a board game sesh after work. You name it, we’ve got it!
  • Get involved with our diverse community through Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) that champion Diversity, Equity & Inclusion initiatives and promote a supportive environment
  • You’ll contribute to industry-leading titles!
The base salary range for this position is $125,000 to $170,000. The stated pay scale reflects the range that SkyBox Labs reasonably expects to pay for this position. Your base salary and level will be determined by various factors including, but not limited to, qualifications, skills, experience, and demonstrated competencies.

Our commitment to you:
SkyBox Labs is proud to be an equal opportunity employer, committed to developing and maintaining a diverse workforce. You’ll join a collaborative, inclusive culture where we succeed together, and like-minded people work naturally together to achieve great things (and games!).
Only candidates who reside in Canada or are willing to relocate will be considered for this role. Additionally, although we appreciate all interest, only those candidates selected for an interview will be contacted.
