Senior User Experience Designer
About Us
Axle Health builds AI scheduling and workforce management software to empower in-home healthcare providers to deliver exceptional, personalized care right where patients feel most comfortable—at home.
Some of the biggest providers in the country use our software (like Cityblock Health and U Penn Health System) to improve the utilization of their field teams by 17%+, and automate the operational burden of scheduling and dispatching.
Our platform includes proprietary logistics algorithms to optimize scheduling, a mobile app for field staff, an operations dashboard for office teams, engagement and booking tools for patients, and a wide range of integrations and external APIs for modular access.
We’re a team of top-tier engineers and operators, backed by $14m from top investors such as Y Combinator, Pear VC, and F-Prime, applying our intellect and logistics experience to upend how home healthcare is delivered.
About You
Axle Health is building the operating system for home-based care, helping healthcare organizations schedule, route, and manage their clinical workforce more effectively. As our Senior User Experience Designer, you'll be the design function's engine on the product team, reporting to our Head of Product, and owning the full arc of user experience from research and discovery through execution and post-launch iteration. This role sits at the intersection of user insight, product strategy, and engineering, making design a visible driver of both product quality and business outcomes.
The work here is fast paced, hands-on, and high ownership. You won't be handed a playbook or a mature design system, and you'll design for users in a domain where the stakes are real and the workflows are genuinely complex. Embedded in the product team alongside product managers, you'll work directly with engineers and clinical operations stakeholders, leading research, shaping product direction, and building the systems and processes that make great design repeatable across web and mobile. If that kind of cross-functional, building from first principles challenge is what energizes you, this role is built for it.
You've done this before. You have a portfolio that demonstrates end-to-end design ownership, not just polished screens, and you can walk through the decisions that shaped your work, including the ones that didn't survive contact with users or engineering constraints. You've shipped to real users, measured what happened, and iterated quickly.
What You’ll Do
Rapid design iteration: Translate product requirements and user feedback into wireframes, flows, and high-fidelity designs quickly, treating shipping and learning as the cycle rather than a long runway to perfection before handoff
Cross-functional partnership: Work as a daily collaborator alongside product managers and engineers, moving at the speed of the development cycle and helping the team make fast, well-informed design decisions without process bottlenecks
Lightweight user research: Run targeted, fast research - user interviews, quick usability checks, and feedback synthesis - that feeds directly into the next design iteration rather than standalone research cycles
Multi-platform design execution: Own design quality across web and mobile surfaces from concept through final specs, ensuring what ships reflects user needs and works within real engineering constraints
Design system stewardship: Build and maintain shared components and patterns that make the team faster over time, investing in the right foundations without over-engineering or over-abstracting
Design communication: Present decisions to the Head of Product and cross-functional partners concisely, connecting design rationale to user and business outcomes without lengthy review ceremonies
Engineering collaboration: Stay embedded with the engineering team during development, catching issues early and resolving them in real time to maintain design quality without slowing delivery
Post-launch optimization: Use analytics, user feedback, and product signals to identify what to improve next and prioritize those changes within ongoing sprint cycles
Requirements
5+ years of professional UX design experience - portfolio must demonstrate end-to-end ownership from problem framing through shipped product, including how work evolved based on user and engineering feedback, not just polished final screens
Advanced Figma proficiency - wireframing, prototyping, and engineering handoff at speed, with the ability to move quickly without sacrificing clarity or accuracy in specs
Previous startup experience - has designed in an early-stage or high-growth environment where timelines are compressed, process is lightweight, and the ability to move fast and adapt is more important than following a rigid design methodology
Workflow product experience: has designed workflow-heavy B2B tools that people use all day to get their jobs done (scheduling, operations, logistics, or similar)
Proven cross-functional collaboration - direct track record of working alongside PMs and engineers as a daily partner, not a downstream deliverable maker
User research fluency - hands-on experience with interviews, usability tests, and feedback synthesis, with the ability to extract actionable design direction quickly rather than through lengthy standalone research cycles
Cross-platform experience across web and mobile - fluency in platform-specific patterns, constraints, and user expectations for both
Nice to Haves
AI tool integration experience - Claude design, or similar platforms used to accelerate design workflows without sacrificing design quality or judgment
Analytics and experimentation skills - experience with Google Analytics, Mixpanel, or similar tools to measure user behavior and feed design priorities
Technical fluency - working knowledge of HTML/CSS and front-end constraints that enables tighter, more efficient collaboration with engineering
Healthcare or regulated-industry experience - familiarity with the complexity of designing for clinical or operational users where workflows are high-stakes and non-obvious
