Business Intelligence Engineer - Remote

Summary:   As an integral member of our delivery team, the BI Engineer is responsible for the requirements gathering, design, development, quality assurance, implementation and support of mission-critical enterprise reports, dashboards, and data stores.  

Key Responsibilities: “To simplify complexities for each customer.” 

 

1. Perform business analysis activities to gather required reporting, dashboard, and data store requirements   
2. Translate business requirements into specifications that will be used to implement the required reports, dashboards, and data stores created from potentially multiple data sources  
3. Create data sources which include SQL stored procedures, SQL Data Extracts, and/or other data sources approved by IT Management  
4. Create reports and dashboards using tools such as Paginated Reports, Power BI, SSRS, Tableau, Crystal Reports, and/or any other tools approved by IT Management 
5. Provide support, as required, to ensure the availability and performance of developed reports and dashboards for both external and internal users 
6. Provide technical assistance and cross training to other team members 
7. Design and implement technology best practices, guidelines and repeatable processes  
8. Create test cases for ensuring reports meet stated business objectives.  
9. Perform testing on reports before moving into a production environment. 
10. Work continuously on improving performance of queries, reports, and data stores using industry standard methodologies for SQL generation. 
11. Participates in industry and other professional networks to ensure awareness of industry standards, trends and best practices in order to strengthen organizational and technical knowledge. 

 

Qualifications/Education/Certifications: 

Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university plus two to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. 

 Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 

Required Experience: 

• 3+ years’ experience writing T-SQL stored procedures 

• 1+ years’ experience in Paginated Reports, Crystal Reports Development, SSRS, Power BI, or equivalent tools 

• Working knowledge of Star Schema modelling and Methodology 

• Strong understanding of the Agile, Scrum, and/or Kanban development methodologies 

• Working knowledge of online transactional (OLTP) processing and analytical processing (OLAP) databases and schemas 

 

The following knowledge is not required, but is preferred: 

• Experience with Tabular Models, Business Objects Universe design, Microstrategy, Tableau and/or equivalent tools 

• SSIS 

• Azure Portal especially Logic Apps 

• JIRA 

 

Agile Competency Requirements: 

• Must be comfortable with change, close collaboration, and have conflict resolution skills. 

• Knowledge of or willingness to learn Agile / DevOps values.
