Purpose of the role

As Proton's B2B Communications Manager (Contract), you will have the opportunity to build something from the ground up: our first dedicated B2B PR function. Proton is best known as a consumer brand, but hundreds of thousands of businesses rely on Proton's products to protect their operations, their IP, and their customers' data.

This is an increasingly urgent story to tell. Cybersecurity risks have never been higher for businesses. Geopolitical risk is now a factor in technology purchasing decisions. The prospect of kill switches cutting off access to US technology is becoming a reality, and companies are asking hard questions about who controls their critical infrastructure. We need someone to make sure they hear Proton's answer.

This is an opportunity for a comms professional who wants to build a B2B communications strategy from the ground up, establish Proton's presence in the business, trade and vertical press, and work with colleagues across Europe and the US to turn Proton's growing business footprint into a leading voice in the conversation around cybersecurity and corporate digital sovereignty.

This role will require you to operate with a high degree of autonomy and thrive in an independent setting. You will have the opportunity to take ownership of Proton’s relationships with key media partners across multiple markets. You will work alongside colleagues across multiple teams to raise Proton’s profile in influential publications, platforms and places.

Proton’s Communications team is spread across the UK, US, France, and Switzerland.

What you will do

• Build and deliver Proton's B2B PR function — define the strategy, the narratives, and the measures of success for a fast-growing area of the business.
• Expand Proton's coverage beyond the consumer tech press into the business, technology trade, vertical and national business media, positioning Proton as the leading private technology provider for companies that want an alternative to US big tech.
• Own and build relationships with journalists, editors, podcasters and newsletters covering business technology, CIO/CISO topics, procurement, and the European tech policy debate.
• Develop B2B PR initiatives that can be delivered across the wider marketing team — working with product marketing, affiliates, content, video, events and content colleagues to ensure PR amplifies and is amplified by the broader marketing effort.
• Proactively pitch B2B stories grounded in Proton's research and data, and position Proton's leadership team as expert voices on business continuity, cybersecurity and digital sovereignty.
• Respond to media inquiries on B2B issues, working with colleagues across communications, product and policy in Europe and the US to ensure accuracy, speed, and consistency.
• Protect and enhance Proton's reputation with the business and tech trade press, supporting product launches, partnerships and announcements relevant to business customers.
• Secure speaking slots and media opportunities for Proton executives at business and industry events.

Job requirements

• At least five years of B2B comms/PR experience, with demonstrated success securing coverage in business, trade or vertical media.
• Strong preference for experience working in-house at a tech scale-up, at a B2B-focused PR agency, or as a journalist covering business technology.
• Expertise in B2B communications — understanding how to reach decision-makers as well as end users.
• Experience building and owning relationships with journalists and acting as a company spokesperson.
• The ability to develop strategic campaigns within the context of an international and multidisciplinary team, and to create initiatives other marketing teams can run with.
• Comfortable operating with a high degree of autonomy
• Strong enough command of technology, security and privacy topics to speak credibly with journalists and field tough questions.
