Location: This role is based in Thabazimbi

Job Description

General Miner will act as a change agent for SOA within the operational working groups, providing peer learning support to operational leaders to embed the positive safety ownership practices.

The SOA General Miner is a dedicated site-based resource responsible for supporting the implementation of the SOA (Safety Ownership in Action) programme through training and continuous improvement activities. The role works closely with operational leaders, supervisors and crews to promote learning transfer, promoting coaching capability, reinforce safe behaviours and support sustained ownership of SOA practices.

In addition, the successful candidate will be responsible for co-designing, implementing, and evaluating training and development programs that enhance the skills, safety, and productivity of employees within the mining operation. This role ensures the workforce is equipped to meet current and future operational requirements while adhering to industry standards and regulations.

 

  1. Safety: Consistent application of Safety & Health principles in all discipline interactions and take personal responsibility for safety of self and others to ensure zero harm and elimination of fatalities.
  1.  Performance and Delivery
    • Serve as a subject matter expert for coaching in specific areas, such as safety procedures, equipment operation, technical skills, or compliance requirements
    • Provide constructive feedback and coaching to participants to help them identify areas for improvement and reinforce operational standards and objectives.
    • Inspection of ground conditions and face preparation, including taking appropriate action in the event of non-compliance to legal and management specifics
    • Inspection of temporary and permanent support installations and taking appropriate action in the event of non-compliance to legal and management specifics
    • Inspection of machinery, equipment and safety devices and taking appropriate action in the event of non-compliance to legal and management specifics
    • Inspection of barricades, barricading off back areas, hazardous areas and abandoned workings and taking appropriate action in the event of non-compliance to legal and management specifics
    • Ensure that the routing and control of mine air are consistent with legal and management specifics
    • Reporting/dealing with any sub-standard conditions and acts related to gases, mine air, velocities and temperatures
    • Submitting all checklists or formal controls required for working areas and operation of  hazardous machinery or equipment
    • Communicating information to team (shift supervisors and Mine Overseers) via reports and formal briefings, with regard to operational matters (targets, ventilation, survey, geological) and safety issues
  1. People & Teams: Actively engage as a team members in all team processes.
  1. Compliance: Ensure compliance with internal and external regulatory, legislative and permitting requirements.

Qualifications

  • Grade 12
  • Blasting Certificate

Experience

  • 4 years’ experience as a Miner
  • 1 years relevant experience in training, facilitation, coaching or workforce capability development will be an added advantage.
  • Experience in mining, industrial, operational or safety environments.
  • Exposure to learning transfer methodologies.
  • Medical Certificate for Underground work

Technical knowledge

  • Behavioural safety and human performance principles.
  • Evaluation and reporting techniques.
  • Good knowledge of MHSA
  • Good technical knowledge of mine standards and COP’s
