Job Description

Baxterstorey is seeking a reliable and organised Kitchen Porter to join our team in Rochester, United Kingdom. As a Kitchen Porter, you will play a vital role in supporting our kitchen operations, ensuring that our facilities remain clean, hygienic, and well-organised. This is a permanent position offering the opportunity to work within a dynamic hospitality environment where your contribution directly supports our culinary team's success.

  • Maintain the highest standards of cleanliness and hygiene throughout the kitchen, including washing, sanitising, and storing kitchen equipment, utensils, and crockery • Prepare and maintain the kitchen environment in accordance with food safety regulations and organisational standards • Assist with the receipt, storage, and organisation of food and non-food supplies
  • Support the kitchen team by performing general duties such as peeling vegetables, portioning ingredients, and preparing items for cooking • Operate commercial kitchen equipment safely and efficiently, including dishwashers and waste disposal systems • Manage waste disposal and recycling in compliance with environmental and health and safety guidelines
  • Respond promptly to requests from kitchen and catering staff, demonstrating flexibility and a supportive attitude • Report any maintenance issues, equipment faults, or hygiene concerns to the appropriate supervisor • Maintain excellent time keeping and reliability, ensuring consistent attendance and punctuality • Adhere to all health and safety procedures and contribute to a safe working environment for all team members

Qualifications

  • Proven experience working in a kitchen or hospitality environment (desirable) • Strong understanding of food safety and hygiene standards, with knowledge of HACCP principles • Level 1 Food Hygiene Certificate or willingness to obtain one (desirable)
  • Physical stamina and ability to lift, carry, and move items regularly throughout a shift • Excellent organisational skills with meticulous attention to detail • Strong time keeping and reliability with a commitment to punctuality • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, pressurised environment
  • Excellent people skills and ability to work collaboratively as part of a team • Effective communication skills and willingness to take direction • Flexibility to work varied shifts, including early mornings, evenings, and weekends as required • Commitment to maintaining high standards of personal hygiene and professional appearance
